School Facilities

Located a short stroll from the heart of Ireland’s most ancient city, our year-round centre is located in a three-storey Georgian-terraced house with a beautiful mature walled-garden overlooked by a stunning conservatory. Upon arrival, students are immediately struck by the family atmosphere which prevails in our school--an atmosphere reinforced by the modern family kitchen in which students can avail themselves of complementary tea and coffee and the communal dining area where students, staff and visitors share stories and news (all through English!!!).

WELC director Bridget Behal has been welcoming students through the doors of WELC for over forty years and has unrivalled experience at making students feel immediately at home. In this friendly educational environment, students quickly make friends and gain invaluable practical experience. English classes are held in bright spacious classrooms with whiteboards and audio-visual equipment allowing for the inclusion of tapes, CDs and DVDs in lesson plans. Students have access to a computer room and library and wireless broadband is available throughout the school.

Our John’s Hill year-round campus is only a short walk from Waterford city-centre with its numerous department stores, restaurants, cafes, libraries, cinemas, sports facilities, hotels, parks, shopping centres, nightclubs, churches, theatres and beaches.

Our International Youth Summer Centre for junior students is located in the enclosed parklands of the Ursuline Secondary School which provide a safe and tranquil setting for morning sessions in bright spacious classrooms. In the afternoons, a fully-supervised programme of indoor and outdoor sports, games, cultural activities and social outings is provided for summer school students.
